Jean Lee Long Phillips

Jean Lee Long Phillips, age 90, passed awayJanuary 1, 2020. She is predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Daniel Brafman Phillips, parents, Cleve and Betty Long and numerous siblings. She was born in Nora, VA on June 9, 1929.

She loved the mountains, bluegrass music, cosmetology, playing cards, canning, gardening and cooking, and learning new crafts. Jean was well known for her southern cooking and Sunday lunches where numerous family and friends regularly gathered and her fierce loyalty and great love of family. She was a noted entrepreneur opening the first small business dedicated to crafts along with partner JoAnn White in the 1970's predating the large chain stores. Jean and Jo's was a favorite gathering place for locals who enjoyed ceramics, knitting, cross stitch, and other crafts.

She is survived by sisters, Helen Riddle, Jewell Leckliter (Ed), Elizabeth Williams (Ben), Brenda Marlow (George), brothers, Ned, Connie (Pat), Don (Judy) and Charlie (Joyce) Stanley. Also surviving are her four children, Randal G. Phillips (Rita), Daniel D. Phillips (Celeste), Karen P. Montgomery (Stan) and Mary Beth P Echeverria (Roy); by nine grandchildren: Jeff Phillips (Beth), Todd Knight, Katie P. Cothern (Brian), Adam B. Phillips (Amanda), Maddie P. Minogue (Domhnall), Izzy P. Hayes (Lane), Amy M. Scott (Taylor), J. Blessing, and Nick Blessing; and nine great-grandchildren, Aiden, Liam, Grace, Emmett, Lex, Shepard, Boone, Cole and Vivian.

Mrs. Phillips was a charter member of Heritage Baptist Church and a former member of the Red Bud garden club of Cumberland County.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2020 at 1:00 pm in Heritage Baptist Church with interment to follow in Westview Cemetery. Family will receive friends 1 hour prior to service starting at 12 noon in the church.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer's Association or Hospice of Virginia.
